Children are continuously figuring out their place in the world. Where they will excel, where they will succeed, where they can make their parents feel proud of them. Oftentimes, because of the fear of failure, they are not verbal about their interests. That is why most parents will be surprised about their child’s superb grade in Math or suddenly he brings a trophy at home.

Because of their child’s tendency to be secretive, parents miss out on the opportunity to understand their children better. The key here for parents is to be more observant. Do you observe that your child spends more time in a bookstore when you’re out in the mall? Does your child spend late nights on the computer but insists he is not playing online games? Is your child usually busy writing quietly after dinnertime? You have a young author in your midst and it is the best time to help him hone that skill!
Creative Writing takes a lot of practice to perfect and creative writing contests sharpen a young author’s skill and creativity. Amateur writers will be insecure to share their creations at first but having their works read by many is the core of writing. After all, writers write because they have a story to tell. A story can be made even better with feedback and this is a good time to have their writing exposed, no matter how amateur it may seem at first.
There are many other benefits of having your child join creative writing contests such as the Young Authors Scheme Competition happening on January 11,2020:
(1) Opening up to your child about these contests provides opportunity to show support. This in turn creates openness. Because they feel supported, they will be more open to sharing their struggles, writing related or not.
(2) They can win. The YAS creative writing competition happening on January 11, 2020 is only one step towards getting international success. The National competition will be held the succeeding month and not only that, Your child can be the first Philippine representative to Singapore where the YAS international competition will be held on October 2020.
