As part of our aim to nurture the next generation of thinkers and writers, the Unique English Classroom is the proud organizer of the Philippines Young Author Award 2021. This writing workshop and competition will identify the best talents that will represent the Philippines in the Asian Young Author Award (YAA). The stories will be submitted for the Asian Young Author Awards Competition in Singapore in August 2021. YAA aims to recognize the most prolific budding writers in the Asia region.
Philippines Young Author Awards Online Workshop and Competition
Are you a teenager between the ages of 13 to 16 years old?
Do you possess a good command of English?
Do you have a passion for writing short stories?
Then, we invite you to join our selection process to represent the Philippines in the Asian Young Author Award in Singapore.
All participants will join the Young Author Award Workshop coached by Ms Catherine Khoo, founder of the Unique English Classroom and creator of the Young Author Award from Singapore. Ms. Khoo is an author, editor, lecturer, and moviemaker with more than 14 years of experience in media. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Japan Close-Up Magazine and Asia 21 Magazine. She has published two bestselling books and is the founder of Singapore’s first boutique publisher of imprints for under 18s.
This is the only Young Author workshop in the Philippines to groom young budding writing talent and we are limiting registration to the first 50 sign-ups.
The Young Author Award Workshop will be conducted ONLINE (using Zoom) on July 21 to 24, 2021 from 10 am to 12 pm by Catherine Khoo.
Workshop Agenda
Day 1 (21st July 2021 at 10 am): What Do I Write About?
Day 2 (22nd July 2021 at 10 am): What is the Theme of My Story?
Day 3 (23rd July 2021 at 10 am): Analysing Stories Written by winners of the Young Author Award
Day 4 (24th July 2021 at 10 am): Planning My Story
After the workshop:
1) All candidates will need to submit their final 1,500-word story by 26th July 2021.
2) Top 3 winners will be announced on 31st July 2021
What will the Top 3 Winners get?
PRIZE (1) Cash
Top winner will get P2,000 cash to be credited to their bank account.
Runner-up will get P1,000 cash to be credited to their bank account.
Second runner-up will get P500 cash to be credited to their bank account.
PRIZE (2) Personal Coaching Session
Top 3 winners will enjoy personal exclusive coaching by Ms Catherine Khoo for 30 minutes on 24th July 2021 (schedule to be arranged separately). The coaching session will guide them on how to write their 3,000-word story. Their stories will be submitted for the Asian Young Author Awards in Singapore for the August 2021 competition.
PRIZE (3) Book Writing Opportunity
Aside from publishing the Top 3’s own stories, Janus Education will also publish an Anthology of Filipino stories written by the Top 10 PYAA 2021 Young Authors and Other Budding Young Authors from underprivileged communities.
