Future Authors: 1st Young Authors Provincial Competition

On April 13, 2019, the 1st provincial Young Authors’ competition, was held at Batangas City. It was hosted by St. Therese of the Child Jesus Multiple Intelligence School in Pallocan, Batangas City. There were 13 participants who joined the competition. These kids were from ages 9 to 15 years old and came from different schools namely: Stonyhurst Southville International School, Philippine Science High School, Divine Grace Escuela Casa Inc. and St. Therese of the Child Jesus Multiple Intelligence School.

There were 2 levels in the competition. Level 1 are for kids ages 9 to 11 years old while Level 2 are kids ages 12 to 16 years old.

The aim of the short story competition is to prepare young writers for the first ever Young Authors Competition this coming October 2019 by The Unique English Classroom Philippines. For the Batangas Leg of the competition, Level 1 contestants will write a 500 to 600 word story about their summer vacation (fiction or non-fiction) with the use of a pre-set writing guide. Level 2 contestants are to write a 1,500-1,600 word story, freehand, with a theme “My Unique Summer Vacation”

Kids during the competition were encouraged to let their  imagination free. We would love to see stories, with humour, with conflict and more importantly stories that keep us reading over and over again!

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

25% – Vocabulary

25% – Organisation and Structure
