Sometimes, I wish I could go into the future and see how it looks like. Will I have kids? Will cars drive on water? Will robots be our personal assistant? Will I die alone? Nobody knows. The only thing I know is that time travel is near to impossible, and that it might not probably happen. The only thing I can do is to wait for it to come. Every night I think about this, and it drives me crazy a little. Time is something that I really take care of; it’s one of the most valuable things to me. In fact, I never went late for school this year! For now, though, everything I could do is imagine. Who knows? Maybe tomorrow time travel could be possible, or maybe tomorrow I might have just woke up in the future.

Ok, today the craziest thing just happened. I woke up, and my room wasn’t the same. I looked outside my window and instead of seeing kids riding on their skateboards; everyone was on a hover board! And I’m pretty sure I saw Iron Man zooming around in the sky. I was just thinking about waking up in the future last night, and it freaking happened. I don’t know how, but maybe this is the best thing that ever happened to me. I went outside of my room and my parents weren’t there. I went out of the house, but there were barely any trees in the ‘hood. I started thinking if this was actually a good thing. I called out a teenager walking his robot dog, “Hey! What year is it?” He frowned and answered me, “What kind of dumb question is that? Its 2050, idiot! Are you from the past or something?”

Well, I guess people in the future aren’t that much nice any more. I started walking around, seeing the differences from my timeline to theirs. I saw that police officers don’t have blue uniforms any more but white ones. And their uniforms look like something that came out of a Sci-Fi movie. They’re equipped with awesome gadgets and laser guns. Cars drive themselves and some people even have their own rocket suits, like the Iron Man guy I saw earlier. Everything was advanced, and now robots teach in school, work in stores and clean the parks. Fashion, was also upgraded. I even saw an airplane dashing through the sky like a jet! Everything was better, cooler and greater than before.

But, everything has a downside. I noticed that there weren’t any trees or any real animals any more. I felt like everything around me is artificial. The air doesn’t feel right and the lake was black. I thought the future would be the best, but it turns out everything wrong in the past just got worse. Plus, music sounds like trash now. The singers I liked (Nick Jonas, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, BTS) had quit the game. All the singers in 2050 have garbage music. And the message of their music is all the same: money, drugs, alcohol and cars. I never knew humans would advance this fast. It’s just 30 years and everything was like this.

The way I see it, I don’t think I’m going to last long here.

The next day, I tried trying to find out how to contact my parents. I don’t know where they are, and my house looks like a dump. I asked a few neighbours, and they told me they had moved out a long time ago. “Did they have a kid with them?” I asked. “No, they moved out and went to a different state after their 13 year old disappeared.” They answered. I can’t believe it. I disappeared? Then came back 30 years later? It just doesn’t sound right to me. So I started investigating and sniffing out more clues as to how I disappeared…or died.

My neighbours said my family went to New Jersey. But I don’t know how to get there since everything is so different now. Until I saw my old friend, Francisco. “France! Hey!” I screamed. He just went on walking like a hobo. He wore a white undershirt and brown shorts and was wearing flip-flops. He had long hair and I deduced that his future probably didn’t work out well. I ran to him and pulled his shirt. “Hey kid what the f-“he paused. He looked at me, and started getting confused. “Alright, I know this is all a blur right now but I’ll explain everything to you later.” I said.

We sat down on a bench in the park and talked. “The future hasn’t really been good for you, eh?” He started getting teary-eyed and the next thing I knew a grown man was lying on my shoulder and started blabbering. After an HOUR he finally talked. “Sometimes things in life don’t really work out all the time, Benz.” He said. “Look at me; I’m a 43 year old man! All my life I just wanted to accomplish the things I wanted to accomplish, but I didn’t. And my chances are already taken.” I patted him in the back and then he asked me how the heck I got here. “I don’t know, it’s just, I woke up and then I’m in 2050. I don’t know if it’s magic? But what I do know is that there’s something fishy about this. It’s not right.” Then he said, while squeezing me real hard, “But NOW for the time being, can you stay in my house?” France smelled so bad I wanted to puke, so I just caved in and said yes. But I gave him a condition, if he’d help me find my parents, so he did. I stayed in his house, and in the next morning we were on set to find my family.

I asked France if he had any money. And then he showed me the only money he had: 3 dollars. “Oh you have got to be kidding me!” I cried in frustration. “I’m broke, man.” He replied. Then he suddenly ran to the upstairs room and I saw two electric guitars: a red one and a blue one. “I have an idea. We’ll perform at the town park and people will give us money while we rock!” He explained. I can’t believe all these years Francisco still loved music and still knew how to play the guitar so I said with a grin, “You bet you.” We went up on our feet and he drove his rusty old pick-up truck.

We got to the park, and set up our gear. He decided to just play while I sing. We had our microphones on and in no time we were rocking. “Who’s ready to ROOOOOOOOOOCK!!!” I screamed on the microphone. That seemed to get everyone’s attention, so they went near us. Then I started strumming my shiny red guitar and started singing. I enjoyed how Francisco and I performed. People were then putting cents, pennies and silver dollars in our bucket until France did his awesome-fire guitar solo and when I hit the high notes. After performing, people still wanted more, and so we played more songs and I had to get more buckets because the first one was stacked!

We went back home in the afternoon. And by estimate I think we had at least 2000 dollars in 4 buckets.

Both France and I were in a good mood when we woke up, and we even went to a restaurant to celebrate. We talked about Francisco’s life during the past decades. He said a lot has happened. He got married but it didn’t last long. He also said his parents died and his older brother is in prison. He said he wasn’t able to attend college because his parents lacked the money. His dad lost his job when he was in high school and his mom was diagnosed with cancer. After talking about that he looked at the window and I started getting the feeling that he might just cry again. “It’s going to be okay, dude.” I said. He looked at me and answered, “No. I lost all my chances.” He stopped then continued, “but I’m not letting you lose yours. So while we still have time we have to find your parents, and figure out how you got here.”

We packed our bags for the journey we were about to have. I also bought some new clothes for myself at the mall. After that we went to the train station then got our tickets. We were ready to go.

The trains don’t even have wheels any more, instead they run on magnets. They were called MagLev trains, which stood for “magnetic levitation”. These trains actually originated in Japan. The train went ultra-fast, because before I knew it, I was already in a different place. Francisco and I got our bags and got on a “jumper-taxi”. I asked the driver what a jumper-taxi was before we went off and he said that jumper-taxis pass through these yellow portals and get transmitted to their destination. Sometimes, though, the portals don’t get you to a specific location, because there are only a few of these portals. I tried to find the seatbelt, but the driver said that the seatbelts are like holograms. They build up some particles and turn into a real solid object and that it only appears once we’re near a portal. I got to say whoever invented this jumper-taxi thing is a GENIUS. The driver even said that sometimes, when the portal doesn’t detect the vehicle right away, the taxi will get propelled into the air. But he also said to not worry; because these taxis have thrusters and that even when we’re in the sky we’re safe. He also said that these vehicles were created for less traffic.

I held on to my seat when we approached the portal. Then I started feeling a million ants crawling on my chest, I looked and saw it was just the seatbelt being summoned. I was so nervous and was skipping a heartbeat. I started sweating and my hands started to shake. What if we get propelled in the sky and thrusters don’t work? I’m going to die!

It was as if I just blinked and when I opened my eyes I was somewhere else. I never knew it would be that fast. But, well, yeah. Teleportation. France paid the driver and we went out of the car. I pulled the address that my neighbours gave me, and France and I walked around. We asked the people in that neighbourhood where my parents were and they said I was near.

Then I saw it. It was a big white house. I rang the doorbell, and then a guard came over and talked to France. “Who are you?” the guard asked. “My name is Francisco Labao III, sir. I’m with this kid. His name is Benz Magistrado.” France nervously answered. The cranky guard turned to me and interrogated me, “What is your business here, kid? Why do you have the same surname as my boss, Jeanette?” I said I was Jeanette’s long lost son and told him all the information I knew about her and even showed him a picture of my mom and I when I was a baby.

The guard froze, and then the gates automatically opened when he did some kind of hand position. I went in and pulled France with me. In no time I was in my mother’s office, and explained everything that had happened to me. She wouldn’t stop crying and hugging me though, she sure did miss me. She also wouldn’t stop asking questions when I have already told her everything. Well, she’s till my same old mom.

“When did you get filthy rich, mom?” I asked curiously. She said that she had won the lottery, created a jewellery business that worked out and franchised some food companies. I noticed all the stuff she used to dream about having was now hers. How the tables have turned for mom! I realized that people have different futures; I looked at France and looked at mom. It seems like it was just all planned. But I guess it’s just fate. After talking mom toured me around her house and showed me all the stuff she has.

But then everything started glitching, my mom fell to LITERAL pieces and France disappeared then mom’s whole house did too. Then I opened my eyes and everything was all plain white. I opened the box that I was holding. Surprised, I opened it and saw a timer, it only said 42 seconds, then 41, and 40 and 39. I started to realize that I was also disappearing-my hands first. A small black path opened and a door was just on the edge. I deduced that if I get to the door I live. So I ran as fast as I could to the door while my body was slowly disappearing. I screamed, “NNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” and then I disappeared.

I woke up, in my bed and everything was normal. I looked out the window, and there were teenagers riding on skateboards and an airplane slowly passing by. I looked at my clock and it said: 6:24. I went out of my bed, but I noticed there was box right there that I have not seen before. I picked it up and opened it, and inside was a card that said: YOU’RE COMING BACK.

I froze, and I put that card and that box inside the trash bin. I tried not to think about it all day but it just kept on bugging me.

Was it all a dream? Or did I really get to the future? Nobody knows. The only thing I know is that time travel is near to impossible, and it might not probably happen.

END.
