Catherine Khoo
Founder's Note
Catherine Khoo, author, editor and filmmaker, has been involved in writing and publishing since 1990. Having written and published both children and business books, Catherine is also Managing Director of Janus Education, a premier English creative education specialist and the Publisher of Experiences & Experiments Books.
The Unique English Classroom™ is the culmination of Catherine Khoo’s media savvy with innovative educational concepts. A highly interactive and fun series of programmes to accelerate the teaching of English, The Unique English Classroom has found a niche in more than 150 primary and secondary schools since it was first introduced in 1996, under its school arm, Janus Education Services.
Aside from the Unique English Classroom, Experiences & Experiments Books is Singapore’s first boutique publisher of books exclusively for under-18s, by under-18s. Launched in 2005, the Young Author Club is Experiences & Experiments Books’ first imprint. It stresses Catherine’s philosophy of “breaking the boundaries of education”.
Likewise, the Young Reader Club (YRC) magazine, launched in 2010, is Experiences & Experiments Books’ children and teens magazine that features literary work by graduates of the Young Author Scheme. Directed towards a young audience, it also carries issues and views of young individuals for the child/teen audience.
Also, in 2010, the roots of the Catherine Khoo Writing Foundation were planted with a book project with the Central Singapore Community Development Council. Since then, CKWF’s book projects have inculcated the values of camaraderie and empathy that have meaning and social value. The latest imprint, in 2022, is the Young Maestro Chef-Author, which brings together 15 chef-authors, aged 10 to 16, to raise funds for one of the poorest communities in Cavite, Philippines, for much-needed food and medicine.
