Ethan Kua
Hello, My name is Ethan and I go to SAS, Singapore American School. I am 14 years old. Back when I wrote for YAA the story, “The Deception” I was 11 years old. After I wrote my story, I have been doing research for a possible creative writing project. Some research is about religion and ancient cultures like the first culture, Mesopotamia which were the first to make architectural temples, buildings, and so on. Other
research in other subjects were driven by things I was interested in such as cryptids, a class of animal that remains to be proven real or false, famous ones include the loch ness monster, loch means lake in Scottish.
So that’s what writing is driven by, interest in the subjects. As all writers, before we write we have to
research about a particular topic in your story, and what better way is there than reading? As writers we all love to read, it’s what inspires us to BE writers. So currently what I have enjoyed reading so far is a book called, “Gathering Blue” from the Dystopia genre. It’s a book that takes place after the previous book “The Giver” and focuses on a girl with a twisted leg who has an apparent talent for weaving and is recruited by the Gaurdian’s council, a form of leaders/judges, to weave the singer’s cloak, until she finds a lie in what the council has been telling the people for years.
In school we have been researching about different topics that can be helpful in future writing projects such as certain information about animals, scientific projects and research, and even stuff that can only be found in your head! It’s called imagination, so let’s use it to create stories we wish to make.

In Quebec, things have changed. The nights are no longer safe for residents to go out. Dead bodies just keep turning up at the break of dawn. Few see them, few live to tell the tale. One did, and his name is Conan. After witnessing one such attack, no one believed him when he shared what happened; after all, who would listen to a kid about myths and monsters coming to life? All did not, except an mysterious old man who gives him a rather peculiar steel box, designed with carvings. He warns Conan to open it in secret. That leaves the question: What events are triggered by this action?
