Chan Yan
My name is Chan Yan and I am 11 years old. I attend Henry Park Primary School. I was 10 when I wrote “Seeing Double”. Books and music are my two love. Both allow me a way to enter into a world totally different from my own. One of my dreams is to create a book with music playing in the background as one reads the book. I will write the story and score the music to suit the content of the story. As the reader reads the book, the music and the words will work together to bring the reader into the world of the story. I think that would be a really cool experience. My mother told me I used to write “short stories” for her when I was 5 years old. Of course, I could not make head or tail of my own “short stories” when I read them now, as back then, I wrote without punctuations. However, my love for writing started then. I feel that through writing I could live different lives and do things I would never be able to do in real life. Therefore, I am really grateful for the Young Author Scheme experience. Through it, I learned to expand my “short stories”, put a structure to it and of course having my own book I created from scratch at the end of it. Writing my book makes me feel as if I lived through the same experience as my protagonist.
