Clarence Chan
I am Clarence Chan from Anglo-Chinese School (Primary). I was 10 Years old in Primary 4 when I was selected by my teacher for the Young Author’s Scheme. My story was written after my examinations, during October to November of 2016. Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) is an all-boys school. I have a younger brother who also studies in the same school and my mommy is very busy, keeping the three of us, my brother, me and my daddy, to properly behave at home. I was elated when my Primary Four English teacher offered me the chance to participate in the Young Author’s Scheme, a program I soon learnt, that gave pupils who are skilled in writing the rare opportunity to further nurture and display their talent in writing. Before I participated in the Young Author’s Scheme, I never particularly enjoyed writing. The only reason I scored well for my compositions was that I was an avid reader. Every moment I spent sitting down was one I spent with my hands on a book. However, reading only took me so far, and the main reason I would lose marks in a composition was that I took too long to write and I lost marks due to a hastily concluded story. The Young Author’s Scheme helped me to remove that flaw, and I was able to write a 2000 word story in just four days.
