Biography
Meagan Rae Tan
My name is Meagan Rae Tan, I’m 13 and studying at School of The Arts (SOTA) Singapore. I wrote this story when I was 12. My writing is mostly inspired by ideas that flow into my mind at 3am in the morning. I love relaxing with music, binging anime and doodling.
I joined the YAS course last year, kudos to my mum’s encouragement. At first I was skeptical about joining as the course took place during my precious school holidays. However, I finally agreed, albeit reluctantly. I was absolutely not disappointed. It opened my eyes to the beauty of writing, and I developed a passion for it. It taught me that writing is a haven where I can express myself in any way that I want, where everything is possible. Now, writing has grown to be an important part of my life. So thank you YAS and mum for showing me how amazing writing is.

In the modern, fast-moving society of Singapore, sometimes it is easy to forget our roots and the importance of preserving our heritage and culture.
Join me as I wander through the streets of Singapore in search of the best chwee kuehs in town, rediscover heritage foods from the past, relearn the origins of the well-known Cantonese dish, “Double-skinned milk,” as well as learn how to create my own special recipe of “Steamed Milky Egg Custard.”
