Overview
Join us on 7th December for an enriching walking trail that celebrates the vibrant 70 year history of our estate. Our 160-page book documents the voices of current and former residents and shop owners, capturing the developments that have shaped our beloved community. Along the trail, there will be stories narrated by long-time residents of our unique estate. You will visit original and upgraded homes revealing our evolving landscape, and experience the laid back feel of a former British village.

Itinerary for Walk

9:00 am | Gather at 24 Bodmin Drive, Singapore 559623 View a 70-year-old single storey house with minor renovations. Mabel Wee will share her story (Preface & changes in the estate.) Light refreshments – Bottled water & snacks for participants |
9:30 am | Walk to Chartwell Park. Admire the old and new houses on the way. See the flora and fauna within and beyond parks. Meet Judy and her love birds and/or a morning Taichi regular (pg 73 -75) |
9:45 am | Visit St Francis Xavier, a Catholic Church (pg 83) |
9:55 am | Continue along Chartwell to Burghley Drive, pass Our Lady of Good Counsel (pg 95-97) and Golden Hill (pg 63). Anne Teo will share about the rubber plantation next to her childhood home at 1 Burghley Drive. |
10:10 am | Visit Theodore Chan’s modern house at Cardiff Grove (pg 140: CNA feature in QR Code) to view a “changing face, changing landscape” |
10:30 am | Proceed to a former crocodile farm below Caltex Petrol Station. Anne (pg 62-63) will share her stories on sight of crocodiles & smells of the past. Now exists a housing estate at La Quinta Park where the tannery was located |
10:50 am | Visit another home at Cardiff Grove that blends with nature because of extensive use of timber and Frances’ favourite outdoor kitchen (pg 139) |
11:00 am | Cross Lorong Chuan to Serangoon Central. In the past, Kampong Jalan Nira (pg 61) was an area with flower nurseries. |
11:30 am | End of trail at NEX. All participants are invited to the Book Launch at 2pm Serangoon Public Library at L4R. Guest of Honour: The Speaker of Parliament , Mr Seah Kian Peng as he is a resident in the estate. |
