My name is Adelle Storme Veniles Sison. I just turned 15.
I wrote Lit Candles, midway through the pandemic as an incoming Grade 9 student from South Hill School Inc. where I write for HAPSY, the school’s official newsletter. I have lived in Mexico and the Philippines and am convinced that there is nothing better than Philippine mangoes, Philippine corned beef and some chicken fingers with a side of fries on any given day.
The Young Author Scheme has allowed me to meet other incredible authors my age, and it’s an honor to have learned alongside them, especially with the guidance of our teachers. I’m grateful that I’ve had this opportunity, and that I got to meet so many young authors and teachers that are as passionate about writing as they are. It was inspiring to see so many teens across Asia dream of being writers and tell their very own original stories. It was wonderful to see an organization like this actively encourage and cultivate these dreams.
The Japanese occupation in the Philippines lasted for all of 3 years and a lot of media about the war of 1945 was all about the deaths so I wanted to write about the people who were left behind.
